France!

At the end of August this year, we went with Karsten's family to pic up Brolin from his mission in France! Here are some of the highlights from the trip:

MONT SAINT MICHEL
This used to be a Monastery, then a prison during world war, and now a tourist attraction
It reminded me of a familiar place in Lord of the Rings...
See the resemblance?

The Chapel at the very top
Inside

The Monks scriptoria

The courtyard

VERSAILLES PALACE
This is where many of the King Louis' called home, including the famous, Marie Antoinette

The Gardens

The Kings Chapel

Marie Antoinette's domaine
She & her husband (King Louis XVI) built this quaint mini village to get away from the hustle and bustle and luxury of the palace.

D-DAY BEACHES
We had a great time here imagining what it would be like the day the americans arrived on this beach. We explored the hills and found old bunkers the Nazi's used to hide. It was very humbling to think what our soldiers went thru many years earlier on the same ground we were standing.
Here is one bunker the Nazi's used
Selene and I found some old metal pipe, Cool!

DUNE OF PYLA
The sand dunes were a lot of fun! Above you can see the steep steps we walked up to get to the top of the dune. The view was beautiful on both sides!
We ran...
We jumped...
We swam...
We had a ton of fun!

Karst loved running back down the steep hill

BORDEAUX
Miroir D'eau (Water Mirror)
This was so fun! It's black granite with a 1/2 inch water overlay. It would cycle between water, granite and mist. It was beautiful!
Remains Palias Gallien, a 3rd century amphitheatre

The architecture & statue on this old apartment building, is the norm here in France! What?!
This is what happens when you don't clean your building....
it turns black

THE LOUVRE
The Mona Lisa,
was tiny!!

ARC DE TRIOMPHE & CHAMPS ELYSEES
Here we are shopping on the Champs Elysees, which runs from the Arc De Triomphe to the Louvre. Of course, us girls enjoyed ourselves, historical monuments and shopping all in one place!
Statues on the Arc
A beautiful gate on the Champs Elysees
Swarovsky crystal stairs! These will be installed in my house :)
Totally pooped from all the walking, I guess shopping is tiring after all!

I still have to get all the pictures from the Eiffel Tower :) To Be Continued.....
